The word "Gospel" means "Good News. It is the message of what God has done to save sinners through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
If you have not yet truly trusted in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, please read below. Being a "good person" or relying on our own good works cannot earn us God's forgiveness or a place in heaven (Ephesians 2:8-9). Forgiveness and eternal life come only through faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross. No single Christian denomination or religious label can save you — salvation is a personal relationship with the living Lord Jesus Christ.
God made the heavens, the earth, and every person in it (Genesis 1:1; Psalm 24:1). He is perfectly holy, righteous, and just (Isaiah 6:3). Because He created us, He has the right to rule over our lives. God designed us to live in a loving relationship with Him, obeying His commands and reflecting His goodness in the world.
Every person has rebelled against God by disobeying His commands (Romans 3:23). This rebellion is called sin. Our sin separates us from Him and brings the penalty of death and eternal judgment (Romans 6:23). No matter how hard we try, we cannot make ourselves right with God by our own good works, because His standard is perfection.
God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, to live the perfect life we could never live. He willingly died on the cross to take the punishment for our sins, and three days later He rose from the dead, proving His victory over sin and death (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). Jesus Himself said that He is the only way to be reconciled to God: "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6).
God calls everyone to turn from their sin and trust in Jesus alone for forgiveness (Mark 1:15; Acts 3:19). Repentance means turning away from sin and turning toward God. Faith means placing your full trust in who Jesus is and what He has done for you.
When you repent and believe, something miraculous happens: you are "born again" (John 3:3). This doesn't mean starting life over physically, but receiving a new spiritual birth from God. You become a new person inside, with a new heart and new desires to follow Him.
The Bible says, "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God — not a result of works, so that no one may boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9). Salvation is not something we can earn or deserve. It is a free gift from God, received by trusting in Jesus Christ.
When we turn to Christ in repentance and faith, God forgives our sins, gives us a new heart, and fills us with His Spirit. We begin a new life of following Jesus as Lord (2 Corinthians 5:17). We grow in our relationship with Him by reading the Bible, praying, worshiping with other believers, and sharing our faith.
If you realize that you are a sinner who needs God's forgiveness, and you believe that Jesus died and rose again to save you, you can respond right now by calling out to Him in faith. You don't have to use any special or “perfect” words — God looks at your heart. But you can use a simple prayer like this to express your trust in Him:
"Lord God, I know that I have sinned against You and deserve Your judgment. But I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and rose again to give me new life. I turn from my sin and place my trust in You alone for my salvation. Please forgive me, make me new, and help me to follow You as my Lord from this day forward. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen."
If you just prayed this and meant it, you have taken the first step in your new life with Christ. We would love to help you grow in your faith. Visit our Next Steps page for guidance on how to walk with God every day.
